Cinnamon is proven to be effective with PCOS
So insulin plays a vital role in the game of PCOS. If you have PCOS you have a very high chance of getting insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. One usually support the other but you want neither.
It is unknown if cinnamon directly addresses the PCOS but it definitely affects the insulin issue.
When diagnosed with PCOS one of the treatment options that your doctor could prescribe you is metformin.Which is an insulin-sensitizing agent. What it means is, it works to undermine the insulin resistance by making the cell more sensitive to it. When the Insulin issue is under control it does significantly help with the management of PCOS too. (1)
However, metformin can cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Which is not very pleasant for a drug. Also, it is not an ever fixing cure and there is a need for the drug throughout your life. So scientists tested out an alternative, cinnamon.
Insulin and Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a sensitizing remedy for insulin on the cellular level. it is ancient and it is an effective remedy that is proven to be effective. (2)
A study in Columbia University, over a 6 month study, revealed that women with PCOS showed improvements. The women with PCOS were given 4 capsules (125 mg) three times a day.
Results were incredible the tested women had more frequent menstruation. Though there wasn't a significant change in terms of the androgen levels or insulin resistance.
You might ask "How could it be that easy?" but apparently it is. Although it is not an everlasting solution it is helpful.
It could be worth a try especially if you have insulin resistance and your main issue is irregular menses.
And an added bonus will be to have less of those crazy-eyed sugar cravings. Cinnamon helps curbs the cravings by keeping the blood sugar regulated.
